    Fat vs weight

    21 Dec 2022

You might find this hard to believe, but many people I work with want to lose weight. This is kind of a hot button for me, so let’s break this down a bit. It would be best if you never wanted to lose weight. Weight is never an issue. The scale is not your enemy. Fat is your enemy, fat is what we want less of, and fat is what we want to burn off the body. I bring this up because if you lose a pound of fat and…

What is depression, and how does it feel?

    21 Dec 2022

I was talking to another doc the other day and realized that many doctors and lay people have the wrong idea about how depression feels. Real depression doesn’t have to be, and often it isn’t that you hate yourself. The actual clinical definition of depression is when you have no desire to do anything, and so you sit and do nothing. This is why it is often said no one commits suicide when they are depressed. They commit it when they are coming out of depression. So, you still feel…

Strength vs. Tone – Are you full from Thanksgiving? Well, start your new year’s fitness resolution early

    21 Dec 2022

Muscles have two functions that are equally important but very different. Muscles have tone and strength. Strength is how hard a muscle can contract at any given time, typically under conscious control. This means you can lift 30 lbs. with a bicep curl if you want to try. You decide ok, lift the weight, and the weight moves up; conscious choice lift once. This muscle function also fatigues at a much higher rate than tone. The tone is how hard a muscle is pulling all the time. It is what…

How do you handle major issues and problems outside of your control? What can you do?

    21 Dec 2022

There is an interesting piece of psychology that helps explain why people tend to get hit hard with the change they should have seen coming, and it’s called the normalcy bias. Often we look back in history and ask why the people didn’t see this big thing coming. The most obvious example is during WWII. When you look at everything happening and have the benefit of knowing the result, you ask how people did not do something. How did they not see what was coming? Why didn’t they plan better…

Silicones in skincare and makeup, what is the good and bad? Dr. Bethany Meyer lets us know critical health updates

    21 Dec 2022

Silicones are frequently found in skincare and makeup products due to their ability to aid in protecting and moisturizing the skin as well as improving overall feel, texture, and slip of the product.  They are used to smooth wrinkles, blur imperfections, and even allow for other useful ingredients to penetrate deeper into the skin layers.  Dermatologists prefer to use silicones because they have been found to have very few side effects, are non-comedogenic, and a non-irritant.  Unfortunately, there are several misconceptions out there regarding the use of silicones. Silicones are…

How will you handle the flu this season? It is stronger and more irritating, and here is what I have found.

    21 Dec 2022

This year, we are seeing a very strong and irritating version of the flu. Typically, the flu protocol knocks out the flu in a couple of days, 2-3 usually. However, this bug is proving to be a bit more of a challenge. We see that it starts with indigestion, loose stools, or nausea, including vomiting and significant congestion, and can last for 7-10 days. The best path we have found for this particular issue is to alternate kidney castor packs and coffee enemas while taking larger amounts of L-Lysine, Vitamin…

Are you too busy to remain healthy? Here are some tips that helped my patients. – Dr. Chalmers

    21 Dec 2022

People don’t work out because they need more time or familiarity with exercise to go to the gym and work out. For a lot of people, that may be partially true. However, you don’t have to go to the gym to work out; you have to move. I had a doc that worked in the ER of a hospital and worked long shifts. He couldn’t take off for 2 hours to drive to the gym, work out, shower, then drive back to the hospital during his shift, so we made…

Are You Tired of Everyone Saying We Should Strive for Equality?

    21 Dec 2022

I’m tired of everyone talking about equality without a cohesive definition. It seems like everywhere I go, someone is preaching about how we should all be equal and striving for fairness. But does anyone stop to think about what this means? What would it take to achieve it? I don’t think so. In this article, I want to talk about why I wouldn’t say I like the idea of equality and why it’s a terrible goal to strive for. Equal opportunity. I am a fan of it. However, the idea…
