You work out your muscles, why not your eyes?

    07 Feb 2023

Training the muscles in your body can help do a lot of things.  It can help with pain, balance, look, health, mental function, breathing, and eyesight. Yes, you can exercise your muscles to support your eyesight significantly. You see, the reason that you can see at all is that the muscles in your eye tighten and loosen to change the lens's shape, which alters how we get light into the eye and thus see. The exercise and reason these works are simple; we have discussed it before. If you look…

What are IT Band Issues? And are active stretches better?

    06 Feb 2023

I hear a lot about how the IT band is too tight, and we need to foam roll it. This is not the case. Foam rolling is great for recovery/post-workout routines to move lactic acid and other waste out of the leg muscles. However, it's not the right thing for IT band issues. The ilium, femur, and tibia/lower leg position are not in the right place. More often than not, the hip or the ilium will move backward or forward. When the ilium moves, it doesn't just go forward or…

What causes migraines? Or is the real question; Who?

    02 Feb 2023

Headaches come in a variety of severity and origins. The most severe is a migraine headache. I classify it as the most painful because we are the reason we get them. Migraines have an origin in the lack of oxygen to the brain. When the brain loses oxygen, the blood vessels contract to increase the speed at which the blood flows. This carries oxygen faster and thus increases total oxygenation to the brain. The problem is that sometimes this increased pressure causes issues inside the blood vessels, leading to inflammation.…

Should you feel bad, or eat more?

    01 Feb 2023

I had someone come in a couple of days ago, and they were getting tired, edgy, a little snappy, and felt kinda bad. They couldn't figure it out and thought they might be sick or coming down with something. After testing them, they didn't test that badly. After testing, we talked for a bit since their testing didn't show anything that would have accounted for how they felt. I asked about what they were eating, which was a pretty solid macro set and food choice for the person. We finally…

Don’t give up hope when you hear a negative diagnosis. Find other opinions, opinions and resources.

    31 Jan 2023

I had a young man come in the other day, and his primary issue was that he had a significant internal rotation of his feet. He was pigeon-toed. The father told me how the other doctors had been looking at his feet and ankles and could not explain to anyone why the son had this issue, so they told him there was nothing ANYONE could do. First, I like how three doctors at a hospital can't figure something out, so they think no one could—a great way to instill hope.…

Can you guess what does lifting weights and golf have in common?

    30 Jan 2023

I do not know if I have put out my list of lifting rules, so here are some of them. Muscles move in precise patterns or ranges of motion. Always ensure that you are following the range of motion strictly. Muscles move a joint, a single joint. If anything moves besides the one joint you're exercising, you're doing it wrong. A muscle doesn't need a bunch of new-style exercises to grow most of the "new" exercises are to keep people from getting bored. Don't look for "new.” Do the best…

Do you have an opinion on how often to get checked for breast cancer? And what about the dye?

    27 Jan 2023

Lots of people have asked about my thoughts on mammograms and breast care. First, if you have no idea if you have any family history of breast cancer or if you know people in your family who have died from breast cancer, get a genetic test to determine your level or risk. This can also be done on younger children and is a good idea. If you need to get tested, your kids probably do as well. As far as standard testing goes, I am not a fan of standard…

What is the relationship between cholesterol and low nutrients?

    26 Jan 2023

As I research and see things following a pattern, it is more and more apparent that the body was designed to heal itself. The research that I am doing, and is ongoing, shows that higher LDL cholesterol levels are due to a lack of physiological and chemical level needs. What I mean by that is that your body responds by trying to make more when your body runs low on critical hormones like testosterone, vitamin D, cortisol, adrenaline, and a host of other chemicals. The basis for many of these…

Which is better calories in or calories out?

    25 Jan 2023

So, I am about to start a giant fight with people but let's talk about it. Calories in vs. calories out for fat and muscle levels is NOT all you have to worry about. Chemistry matters. Does the body respond to 2000 calories of lemonade the same way the body responds to 2000 calories of vodka? No, that's silly, but this is all the evidence you need to see certain things cause different reactions in the body. Too many people are stuck in the idea that every human has the…

Can you tell if your complacent or just content?

    24 Jan 2023

One of the most important mindset positions and struggles people go through is the balance between being content and complacent. It has developed into the saying that strives to be content but never complacent. This is a fine balancing act. On the one hand, you should be happy with what you have and what you have created. While on the other hand, you should use your talents and create more. The idea is that you need more and still need more. It's that you recognize what you have and are…
