Often in life, we make a plan, start traveling down that route, and then become sidetracked by what appears to be every little item along the way. These are what I refer to as “roadside distractions.” This is something that would happen to people who lack attention or willpower, but it actually results from routes that are set in wants rather than purpose. When we desire something, that desire may vanish.
We can also want something at the moment and set a goal, only to see something shiny and want it, deviating us from our route. The idea should be to develop goals that are consistent with our mission. However, to accomplish this, you must first sit down and identify your goal. Not things you like or think you should like, but something that motivates you. The things for which you are willing to risk all.
The foundation of what and who you are.
Everyone has a purpose; most of us have not considered it and asked ourselves, “What is my purpose?” My goal is to assist in ushering in the concept of wellness rather than healthcare. An idea of achieving the maximum possible quality of life and then figuring out how to maintain that for as long as possible. This is why wellness is long-term health. This is a large undertaking, and I have made revisions to my initial plan as time has passed, but I have not deviated from the aim.
This desire drives me to get up at 4 a.m. daily to read and research. It’s why I can go to work for 12 hours and then come home and think about it for the rest of the night without being exhausted. If you find yourself being diverted as you travel your route, try reevaluating your life to see if you are following your wishes or your purpose. It is difficult to become exhausted while pursuing your goal. It is also far more difficult to get distracted by anything shiny if you keep your attention on your main goal.
